José Ribas Folguera
Born in Barcelona 10 August 1960. Interested in architecture from an early age, he studied the subject at university and on finalising his studies began work with his father, whom he had always admired greatly.
With over 50 years experience, RIBAS & RIBAS ARQUITECTOS base their work on a precise methodology which has provided them with a wide range of experience in all sorts of buildings such as: homes, hotels, facilities, crematoria, football stadiums and so on.
The company has always had close links to the island, having worked on many projects there. José's father started his career with homes and hotels in the 60s, 70s and 80s and continues to this day (along with José's sister, Inma, and niece, Adriana) working on new homes including Las Boas and Patio Blanco developments in Ibiza's harbour in collaboration with Jean Nouvel as well as the future Santa Eulalia del Río crematorium.
How I found Ibiza...
I was born 10 August 1960 in Barcelona. At that time my parents spent every summer on Ibiza visiting family. Since I was only a year old I have spent every summer in Ibiza. The island has been part of my childhood, adolescence and is where I started my architecture career in 1987. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Ibiza in its entirety: an untouched island, hippy, natural, relaxed, fun and professional in the winter, spring, summer and autumn.
Some of ist myriad facets...
After a hard year's work and travelling all over the world, what I enjoy the most is the peace and calm that the island gives me. I love being able to combine my holiday time with family and friends, both at night and during the day, enjoying the sea and the amazingly varied cuisine on offer here.
A luxury on the island...
The island's greatest luxury is the quality of the light, the sea and the energy it gives me.
My favourite moment...
For my 50th birthday (10 August 2010) I had a party in Can Pau with friends from all over the world who came to share my special day and enjoy the island.
A memory when I'm far away...
I can't wait to go back.
The magic of Ibiza...
For me the magic of Ibiza is inexplicable: the light, the sunsets, the memories, the experiences, the white buildings.... I think it's everything! Just stepping on to the island fills me with positivity and gives me good vibes.
What I tell my friends...
I'd describe Ibiza as a combination of night and day where the whole 24 hours are filled with activity and relaxation that you can combine however you want.
