Alberto Serra y José Antonio Marí
Alberto Serra and José Antonio Marí founded the Vintage Ibiza brand, which this year celebrates its fifteenth anniversary. Their premise has always been to create their own unique style with a Mediterranean flavour, based on quality. For their collections, they work with natural fibres: it is an artisan process.
Its creators are involved during the making and design of every piece, and they personally supervise the cutting and sewing of each garment to create a quality product with a character of its own.
Down the years, Vintage Ibiza has dressed personalities and celebrities such as Norma Duval, Pilar Rubio, Cayetana Guillem and royalty, including Queen Letizia and HRH Princess Clara of Luxembourg. Vintage Ibiza products are sold in the company’s own shops, online, and through multiple channels in Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
Tell us what stands out most in the development of the fashion industry in recent years?
A greater presence at events and on fashion platforms: The island’s fashion industry has increased its presence at events and on fashion platforms, at both a local and an international level. This has helped to establish Ibiza as an important destination in the fashion world, and at the same time to drive forward the island’s economy.
What does Ibiza mean to you?
To us Ibiza is: our home, paradise, festivals and parties, gastronomy, wonderful beaches, the very best music, fun and relaxation. It’s a place where you can disconnect from your daily routine and enjoy the island’s natural beauty, as well as the nightlife.
What does the island transmit to you?
A feeling of freedom and fun. It is a vibrant place, full of positive energy with a party atmosphere. Its idyllic beaches, its buzzing nightlife and its breathtaking scenery encourage us to enjoy every moment to the full. Ibiza emits a joyous, carefree feeling; it’s a place where it’s easy to unwind and just let yourself be seduced by the magic of the island.
What is your favourite spot on the island?
My favourite spot on the island of Ibiza is the Pou des Lleó cove, a tranquil, picturesque place which still retains its original charm — with its amazing views of the island of Tagomago, its crystal-clear waters, and nature all around. It is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the scenery and chill out. And to enjoy a delicious Bullit de Peix [traditional Ibiza fish stew] or a pleasant stroll to the Torre d’en Valls defensive tower.
What song do you associate with Ibiza? Why?
Disco, Ibiza, Locomía, by Loco Mía. A song from the eighties. It captures it all: the disco, the fashion, the craziness, sex, sea, the party scene.
Do you have a special memory of Ibiza?
We remember when we were able to get away from work early in the summer, and we’d go out in a little Zodiac that we had then, to a little cove near our house, that could only be reached from the sea and was completely unspoilt. We christened it Cala Siesta!
What do you tell your friends about Ibiza?
When friends who don’t know the island come to visit us, we recommend they go to some of our lovely beaches, and visit our pretty villages such as San Carlos, San Miguel and Santa Gertrudis. And that in the evening, they enjoy the gastronomy and the exciting nightlife. And, of course, we always recommend they attend the Adlib fashion parade and visit our four shops.
